Tana French is a genius at creating a slow-burning, increasingly suspenseful and intense plot with her use of dialogue and characters. Her landscapes are vivid and almost a character in and of itself as the atmosphere really seems to come alive. Her creative use of the rooks in the garden is haunting. It takes a bit for her to reel you in, but once you get hooked, her books are hard to put down. Crime is just catalyst to tell very nuanced stories of society, family, emotional turmoil, and human nature. I just finished The Hunter and it’s her best yet!! This is the best of Tana French: superb characterization, description and Irish dialect, and an absorbing plot.
