Just finished Bury Your Dead, book #6 in Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Gamache series and it is the best one yet!! I am so happy that I listened on audio and took the time to also listen to an interview with the author at the end. Two points of note from the interview:

1. She wanted her readers to get to know Gamache, complete with his faults, better in this one and boy did she ever succeed! I don’t think I’ve ever felt more empathy for a fictional character!
2. She was very to the point when speaking about her books being referred to as “cozies”. She said they are NOT cozies. They are much deeper. She refers to them as traditional mysteries ala Agatha Christie and I have to agree. She also said that if people want to enjoy them as cozies and enjoy the story on the surface that is fine and she’s happy they enjoy them. However, they are written to tell a much deeper story about humans, their interactions with others, and what drives them. If there’s a lesson in her books, that’s where it can be found. I will never call them a cozy again lol!!
