Recommendation
Ian Rankin is a fantastic storyteller and writes well on so many levels. Has a great ear for dialogue and understanding of current affairs in Scotland. His main character Rebus is absolutely brilliant. More gritty and flawed and definitely less idyllic than Gamache. Rebus is often deliberately contrasted with DI Shiobhan Clarke who less likely to bend investigative rules than Rebus. I read the series religiously and it’s one of my auto-buys whenever Ian publishes a new one. I just finished “A Heart Full Of Headstones” and absolutely loved it, but I suggest reading the series in order to better understand and appreciate the characters and their relationships.
