Recommendation
A friend of mine recommended the Guido Brunetti mysteries by Donna Leon, and told me they were “as good as the Louise Penny mysteries.” I’ve heard that claim before, and always with acute skepticism, because in my opinion very few writers measure up to LP and her wonderful cast of characters. I have begun “Death at La Fenice,” first in the series, and to my amazement and delight, it is really good – well-written, with interesting characters – and Venice makes a fascinating setting! It remains to be seen if Commissario Brunetti becomes as dear to my heart as Inspector Gamache, but I am hopeful….
