Recommendation
Deborah Crombie’s books about Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James. Like LP’s books, they can each stand alone, but are more enjoyable in order, due to character development. First book is A Share in Death. It’s a good first book, but as is the case for most writers, Crombie gets better and better. Also, the books take place in Great Britain, so there’s not a single small village hosting multiple murders. (Poor Three Pines. Good thing LPs characters are so sanguine about their town’s proclivity for hosting murders and murderers! Of course, they don’t ALL happening Three Pines, but when Gamache is solving crimes elsewhere, I miss the townspeople.) Duncan and Gemma are a devoted couple like the Gamaches — but they are younger and still raising their blended family, whom you get to know well.
