Recommendation
The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese is one of my all time favorites. It’s a slow start with lots of characters, but so worth persisting despite moments of inattention or confusion. When it all comes together at the end, you will be eager to read it again. I created a family/friends chart and a timeline of clues. The plot and characters don’t always seem to make sense, but there is an intensive plot thread driven by the collection of characters and events that suddenly becomes apparent at the end. Verghese really knows how to weave a story. Absolutely magnificent! I recommend reading it when you have the time to devote to it. Because of the complexity, it’s easy to get lost if you aren’t reading continuously.
