At this point in the series, which Three Pines villager would you most like to have cafe au lait with at the bistro? Why?

Goodness, having to pick a favourite is like having to pick only one delicious chocolate from a box of delicious chocolates. But, within the parameters of Still Life alone, I’d say Myrna. We could discuss books, human nature, the villagers, her past career, and maybe I’d ask her why she makes such unusual bouquets (with kielbasa).

I agree with Tara! This is like asking one to choose a favorite child (or favorite Louise Penny book). And, it is hard to suspend what I know about the folks of Three Pines from later books.

I am not someone who easily strikes up a conversation with someone I don’t know, at least not in the absence of some context. I think Gabri is the kind of person who will carry a conversation and make it easy for others to join. And, like Myrna, I suspect he has considerable insights into the people of Three Pines and human nature.

Agreed that it’s SO hard to choose; but based on where we are in this book with all the initial impressions, I think I’d enjoy a good conversation with Myrna the best; she’s a grounded person who truly listens and thoughtfully engages in conversation, while having a great sense of humor and skills of observation, and the least amount of drama. I think I’d be drawn to that the most if I was among these people as a stranger, and it would be an enjoyable, positive chat!

I agree with you all! Myrna for me as well, and for all the reasons listed!

I agree with you all on Myrna but I would have enjoyed a chat with Jane Neal too. She seemed like a decent person and an interesting lady with a deep knowledge and love of Three Pines.

Like most of you I would pick Myrna. I think she could be a poster person for mental health. She is fun, an excellent listener and seems really happy and content with herself. She also has a cosy, comforting bookshop with a woodstove and offers everyone coffee and cookies. So definitely Myrna for me.

Her cozy bookshop and hospitality are definitely extra reasons to want to sit and chat. And you’re right she certainly is the most well-adjusted person in Three Pines I think.
