For the first time in history, scientists at Sanaria and Seattle Children’s Research Institute’s Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR) have developed a groundbreaking malaria vaccine (PfSPZ-LARC2) designed to provide >90% protection with just one dose.

Malaria researchers have been working on this with little success until now. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation provided hundreds of millions to fund malaria research in 2008 and their foundation has committed over 1.6 billion in global funding. The researchers who published this article were funded by EU grants, but regardless of funding support, this news is wonderful. Research is based on past discoveries, so all scientists who have ever worked in this area should really be given credit for this discovery.

Science is not political, although some have politicized scientific achievements. Scientists dedicate their lives working to advance knowledge that, for the most part, benefits society.

This peer-reviewed research was published in one of the most reputable scientific journals, Nature.

Good news: more organizations are starting to organize and take action. People and organizations are noticing, even if they aren’t saying it publicly.

Backcountry Hunters & Anglers have put up a campaign on their website to help their members oppose the current administration and apply pressure to Congress.

“Join BHA in sharing your opposition to the sweeping firings of the staff who manage our public lands at the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Forest Service. Make sure this administration and your members of Congress understand the importance of our public land management agencies and how decreased staffing will have negative impacts to hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation opportunities across the United States.”

From their “Mission” page: Backcountry Hunters & Anglers seeks to ensure North America’s outdoor heritage of hunting and fishing in a natural setting, through education and work on behalf of wild public lands, waters, and wildlife.
