I think they all have a fierce, strong desire for independence and respect. They aren’t expecting, or hopeful, for love but each happily finds it. They also have the desire to do good work. And they find self worth and pride in what they are doing at Bletchley to support their country and share that sense of purpose in common. I also think they ultimately trust one another despite their differences. This is proven when they work together to pursue the traitor.

Interesting to consider what Osla, Mab, and Beth had in common. A couple of thoughts: youth (I think Beth was the oldest at 25); a driving commitment to the work at Bletchley Park; a love of reading (hence The Mad Hatter Book Club, another nod to the backdrop of Lewis Carroll’s THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS in Quinn’s tale). The need for secrecy affected each of them, leading to heartbreaking results and destroying their friendship. These 3 women were all vulnerable and became victimized, targets of guile, easy prey for “Giles”, the great deceiver.
