Let’s discuss the first novel in the Maisie Dobbs series. What do you think of the character’s introduction? Do you immediately like her? Which of her traits endeared her to you? How does the young Maisie in the flashback chapters differ from the mature Maisie?

I love Maisie. I think the first book does a good job of introducing readers to the character and the time period /setting and the theme of war’s impact on the people who participated.

Yes, that’s true. We’re also introduced to some of the lovely supporting characters – Maurice Blanche, Lady Compton, Billy Beale. And we see how Maisie uses her detective skills to figure things out.
