I am still waiting to receive my copy of The Grey Wolf, so I just finished the fourth book in the Thursday Murder Club series, The Last Devil To Die. It is by far the best of the four books, with the writing so far above his first in the series. And I really enjoyed the first in the series!! But The Last Devil to Die was on another level. A wonderful book and so thoughtfully and skillfully written. Highly recommend this series.

I’m waiting too. I fully agree with you on the 4th Thursday Murder Club book. It is the best one. It was a lot more emotional than I would have thought. I’ve just read (listened to) Deanna Raybourn’s Killers of a Certain Age. It’s a bit like the Thursday Murder Club in that there are senior characters getting into murder, mystery and adventures. But instead of a quartet of mixed profession retirees you get a quartet of retired female assassins. It’s quite fun. Different kind of plotting and writing than Richard Osman in that it’s more of an action thriller with a mystery (and our ladies aren’t above killing, they are assassins after all). A little less of that British wit, but I found it entertaining.

I just finished re-reading an old favorite, “Blue Highways: A Journey Into America” by William Least Heat-Moon. I started it while waiting for my copy of “The Grey Wolf” and then realized I wanted to finish it first. I want to believe that the welcoming people of this country he met are still here even more than 40 years later. Seemed like a good perspective while waiting for the US election.

I am making my way through Laurie R King’s Mary Russell books (I picked them up upon recommendations from the LP group) and just finished the fourth book The Moor. I noted that some readers didn’t like this volume as much as other books in the series but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love King’s writing and descriptions of the moor and the homage to Hounds of The Baskervilles, which is one of my favorite Sherlock Holmes stories. I do sometimes find King meanders away from the central mystery sometimes, but she more than makes up for it with engaging plots and fascinating characters. She’s my current favorite author.
