Dark Tower Books In Order
Stephen King’s Dark Tower series is considered by many critics and readers to be his “greatest literary achievement.” The seven-book series chronicles the adventures of Roland of Gilead, the Last Gunslinger, as he tracks down “The Man in Black” through a dystopian, desolate world. The series is a unique fusion of Western fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and horror.
King began writing the first novel in 1970 and eventually finished it twelve and a half years later. It was first published in 1982. However, King substantially revised and expanded the work, which was reissued in 2003.
Due to the serialized nature of the story, the series should be read in order. The Wind Through the Keyhole (Book 4.5) tells a story about gunslinger Roland Deschain in his early days. Although it chronologically fits between The Dark Tower IV and The Dark Tower V, it was published years after the original series.
