The Gideon Crew series consists of five books and follows the adventures of Gideon Crew, a brilliant scientist, master thief, and con artist. Crew has a background in nuclear engineering but has not always used his knowledge for good. He seeks out redemption as the series progresses for a reason we don’t want to spoil.

Readers enjoy the Gideon Crew series for its blend of action, suspense, and cutting-edge science. Gideon is a complex anti-hero, whose sense of humour and problem-solving skills make him both unpredictable and engaging. His personal story arc also adds an emotional depth to the series, complementing the techno-thriller mysteries.
While there is an overarching narrative, many of the books in the Gideon Crew series can be enjoyed as standalone novels. New readers can jump into the series at any point, but there are several continuing plot points that personally affect Gideon that make reading the books in order more fun.

The Gideon Crew series is set in the same universe as the Agent Pendergast series, and there are a few references that fans of Pendergast may notice. However, it is not necessary to have read any of Preston and Child’s other books prior to starting the Gideon Crew series. The one exception is Beyond the Ice Limit (Book 4), which is a sequel to The Ice Limit (2000), a standalone thriller by Preston and Child. The authors caution that Beyond the Ice Limit contains spoilers for The Ice Limit, so if you are planning to read The Ice Limit, it’s best to read it first before the Gideon book.
