Sigrid Harald is an investigator with the NYPD’s homicide division in Margaret Maron’s first mystery series. The young detective has a keen eye for detail, loves cats, paints, and is an avid reader.
Margaret Maron wrote the series knowing it would be finite and that “it would cover exactly one cataclysmic year in her [Sigrid’s] life. I also knew that there was an overarching mystery about her father and that I would reveal a little more of it in each book as the series progressed.” (Mystery Scene)
Readers enjoy the traditional mystery series’ blend of romance and police procedural, and Maron does a great job of describing New York and Sigrid’s personal struggles.
