Jess Montgomery is the pen name of Sharon Short. She is the author of sixteen books and regularly writes a Writer’s Digest magazine column, “Level Up Your Writing (Life)” and was formerly the “Literary Life” columnist for the Dayton Daily News.
Under her pen name, Sharon writes the award-winning Kinship Historical Mysteries set in 1920s Appalachia and inspired by Ohio’s true first female sheriff. Based on early chapters of the first book in the Kinship Series, The Widows, Sharon was awarded an Ohio Arts Council individual artist’s grant for literary arts and named the John E. Nance Writer-in-Residence at Thurber House in Columbus.
Sharon attended Wright State University (Dayton, Ohio), where she earned a B.A. in English with Honors and a French minor, and Bowling Green State University (Bowling Green, Ohio), where she earned an M.A. in English with a specialization in Technical Communication.
Sharon lives in her native state of Ohio with her family.
