
Anne Tyler
Anne Tyler is the author of over twenty bestselling novels and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1941 and grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. She graduated at nineteen from Duke University and went on to do graduate work in Russian studies at Columbia University. A Spool of Blue Thread, her bestselling twentieth novel, was short-listed for the Man Booker Prize; her eleventh novel, Breathing Lessons, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1988. Anne’s writing is recognized for its fully developed characters, her “brilliantly imagined and absolutely accurate detail,” her “rigorous and artful style,” and her “astute and open language.”
Anne married Iranian psychiatrist and novelist Taghi Mohammad Modarressi in 1963 and had two daughters, Tezh and Mitra. Taghi passed away in 1997 at the age of 65 from lymphoma. Anne loves painting and the visual arts and both her daughters share her interest and talents and this area: Tezh is a professional photographer and artist and Mitra is a professional illustrator. Anne currently lives in Baltimore.
