Louise Penny Book Acknowledgements

Many readers agree that the letters of acknowledgement from the Chief Inspector Gamache series are some of the best acknowledgements written by any author. For all Louise Penny fans, these letters are absolute must reads. Because the audiobook versions of these books are missing the acknowledgement sections, we have posted them below, with thanks to Louise (and Louise’s assistant Lise) for granting us permission, for the benefit of our members who have listened to the series and missed out on these precious notes.

“Here’s a quote from Louise’s very first book. I think knowing this about Louise is key. It’s one reason she is able to write so well.”

I went through a period in my life when I had no friends, when the phone never rang, when I thought I would die from loneliness. I know that the real blessing here isn’t that I have a book published, but that I have so many people to thank.

“Trust me. If you have skipped over Louise’s acknowledgements sections, go back and read them. And don’t ever skip them again.”

“I have never, ever cried after reading an author’s Acknowledgements section at the end of a novel. BUT At the end of “A Great Reckoning”, I read what Louise had written in her Acknowledgements and now I’m sobbing! The story itself has an ending that grabbed my heart, so I was already emotional. And then I read the Acknowledgements.

Thank you Louise for creating such wonderful, thoughtful, entertaining, human and utterly amazing stories. And for pouring so much of yourself into them. May you live long so we can enjoy the fruits of your creativity for years to come!”

“I just finished reading A Better Man. The acknowledgements in this book and the previous two brought me to tears. Once again I am reminded that it’s not just the wonderful plots and characters in the Three Pines series that make these books fantastic. It’s that Louise Penny is an incredible writer. She can even write heart wrenching acknowledgements. Thank you Louise.”

“I just laid down the book “A world of Curiosities” and am sitting here in tears. I found Louise’s acknowledgements to be very moving.

I very much enjoyed this book. As I was reading I thought to myself, how does she come up with all these ideas and put them together in a story? Thank-you for answering that Louise Penny in the acknowledgements. I love that I find myself looking up the places mentioned in the books and the characters referred to, knowing they are real places and people. Weaving and basing historical events in these stories with Gamache ( he’s real right? ) Makes for such an emotional connection. I know we all feel the same way, somehow these people, characters, are real to us. Relatable. I cannot wait for the next book! This one, being read in 2 days, as most of her books are, it’s a long wait for the next one! Enjoy the day everyone!”
