AS WE WAIT

A poem I wrote for all of us Three Pines fans as we eagerly await Louise Penny’s new book:

AS WE WAIT

In Three Pines mist where shadows creep,
A cast of characters dream and sleep.
Their friendly glances fill Bistro chairs
With flesh and blood and certain prayers. Allegorical stories surge and grow,
As love and laughter contain the flow,
Through café au lait and flaky croissants,
Death and mortality questions and haunts. Gamache, with wrinkles around his eyes,
Stalks justice, remaining kind and wise.
Reine-Marie’s beauty, poise and grace
Rests in the passion of Armand’s face.
Clara paints resurrected virgin hues,
And Myrna’s sagacity is strewn with clues.
As Jean-Guy broods in the ashen grey dim, Joyous Annie sings a hopeful hymn.
Gabri and Olivier with steadfast peace,
Offer each cherished guest gastronomic release.
Sarah bakes her cakes and bread
To the subtle background of alluring dead.
Ruth recites her hidden wayward pain,
The lump in the throat an endless refrain.
And faintly golden lights now gleam
As Rosa quacks in Ruth’s arms unseen.
We eagerly await ‘The Grey Wolf’ mystery
To add to our Three Pines ghostly history.
And those of us who gladly stand in line,
Join the ranks of the Friendly F.I.N.E!
