This is where the problem lies. And we know that it will not get regulated any time soon.

    1. I agree, this sheds even more light on the situation than is presented in her book. I don’t agree with her about the intent behind Big Tech, at least as a whole. I think there are several bad actors who are motivated by more than just money and opportunity, as she says. EM for one and MZ for another. In these two, they have shown repeatedly their disdain for the “Parasite Class” or the “dumb f***s” who use their platform.

      1. There is a new book out with some insight on this – I hope to get a copy soon to review for myself. But I think that once we have a better picture of this, there might be more incentive to review our online choices. At least, I hope there will be.

It is telling that she’s begging Jon to make it funny so that people will listen to her warnings. I took a look at her Matrix platform and it looks robust, but to be honest, I didn’t really understand it very well. It will take some time to figure it out.

I do love her idea of a public tech stack though. Tara and I were chatting about this just last week too. We have the CBC to ensure that there is a media channel that serves the citizens, so it does make sense to have a publicly-funded tech platform with the same mandate. Many people are looking for safe and more ethical alternatives.
