Tim Horton’s
“Gamache caught the unmistakable fragrance of Tim Horton’s coffee in cardboard cups…Only while on a murder case did he drink fast-food coffee. It was so associated in his mind with the teamwork, the long hours, the standing in cold, damp fields, that his heart raced every time he smelt industrial coffee and wet cardboard.”
This is a photo of the original Tim Horton restaurant. It was originally a hamburger restaurant in North Bay, Ontario in the early 1960s, founded by Canadian ice hockey player Tim Horton.
The first ‘Tim Horton’s donuts’ opened in Hamilton shortly after. In 1967, Horton partnered with an investor who took control after Horton passed away in 1974. The chain then grew into a multi-billion dollar franchise.
The brand is now owned by a multinational holding company.
Thanks for sharing that. Several years ago, a Tim Hortons was opened in a nearby community, but it didn’t last long, sadly. I had never heard of the brand. Had I known more about it, I would have tried it!
I don’t think you missed out on anything Susan. When Timmy’s was sold to the multinational company, the quality decreased significantly. We all tent to avoid it with better options for both donuts and coffee available now.
Good to know! And I noticed in later LP books, it was seldom if ever mentioned; I wonder if that coincided with the sale. What better options would you recommend these days? I enjoyed my road trip to Quebec last year, and hope that won’t be my last one to your beautiful country; I will need caffeine and carbs!
