What questions and/or mysteries do you most want answered in The Black Wolf?

Where is Charles’ laptop?
What is in Charles’ notebook about the lakes?
Why is this notebook the one that David Lavigne most needed to destroy?
What did Shona’s investigation into pollution wavers and the sale of the controlling interest in Canadian resource-based companies reveal?
Will Sebastien be extradited to Canada?
How did Parisi know Charles was meeting Armand at Open Da Night?
How did Tardiff not know of the plot and mob involvement? What secrets does she have?-
Yes, Nancy– all of the above! And also:
Who is that high-placed informant in the Mob who is poised to betray either side at any moment? Who is the top Black Wolf, and how many others are in his/her pack?
How was Jean Caron able to so swiftly enact her plan to send Charles to Armand’s apartment to get his coat, given the timing? Is there an explanation for that?
Will Armand have any permanent disabilities from his injuries? And is he overplaying them at present, in order to appear weaker than he really is?
And because I see the orange flame-like background of the new book cover— how much are wildfires going to be coming into this story, and what are the potential and actual risks to Three Pines?

Gamache says the terrorists spent likely hundreds of millions of dollars planning the attack. There’s no way that the Deputy PM could have paid all that money himself and the other people arrested and involved were an RCMP officer and a Surete officer. So who bankrolled the attack? Gamache discounted the attack as not being related to the mafia because they just want drug addicts and not all that attention yet there are references throughout the book to the mafia families and they were tied to Charles’ death. And they would have the money to bankroll an attack. The other connection is the DC connection…who is it?

Yes, I have those questions too, Nancy and Susan! And interesting thought regarding the new cover for TBW and wildfires!
I have to wonder if the execution of the teacher was actually a random act as the detectives surmised. As mentioned in one of the previous topics, the Magdalen Islands appeared in Glass Houses too, with ties to the drug cartel. Is it all coincidence or is LP playing a very long game and tying together some very long loose threads that she’s hinted at throughout the series? Considering that TGW revisits TBM, it’s a little intriguing and exciting to envision that there could be more Easter eggs to find in previous books that could be clues to what’s coming next.

I have a lot of unanswered questions and probably have to reread the book again to determine if I simply missed the explanations. But some of the unanswered questions I have are:
Was the Canadian PM really not involved in the plot? Why would he promote Lauzon to Deputy PM and put him on two portfolios?
Who provided the botulinum to the terrorists?
Has Shona Dorion’s investigation turned up anything?
What about the other suspects listed in Charles Langlois’ journal?
How was Frere Sebastien drawn in and radicalized?
Does Action Quebec Bleu (AQB) and Madame Chalifoux have a deeper role in the plot?
Who was the woman killer who was with Parisi at the cafe and showed up in Three Pines working for? Was she the person who executed the two people?

Clearly I need to take more notes when I read these books as I can’t begin to remember all the details many of you do? I agree with everything everyone is saying. The Black Wolf has a huge agenda it’s going to have to deal with!

Maureen, those are great questions.
Do you remember if the teacher who was killed by the mob (or at least it looked like he was killed by the mob) was a science teacher?
I also want to know about Sebastien and his radicalization. We have heard about young First Nations men being radicalized by Arnot, but I couldn’t find anything obvious in Sebastien’s background that might have made him vulnerable to recruitment into ecoterrorism.-
Thanks Angie. I hope all my questions will be answered in the Black Wolf! I don’t believe what the teacher taught was mentioned. He was just a few days away from retiring. There was one mention that someone had seen a boat land at one of the jetties where the victim liked to fish. The surete officer on the Magdelan Islands tells Gamache that he didn’t know why the killer didn’t just dump the body in the ocean but instead took him to an edge of a cliff. (pg 288) They wonder if it was because it would send a message to someone else to not talk. So there’s maybe a person connected to the teacher who we don’t know yet. I think things leave off with the investigation still underway.

The new articles of both deaths were sent to Brother Robert to keep him quiet.
