Liane Moriarty

Liane Moriarty is an Australian author of numerous bestselling novels. Her books have sold over 20 million copies worldwide and have been translated into forty languages.

Although she doesn’t recall writing her first story, Liane remembers her father commissioning her to write a novel for him, offering an advance of $1. Writing runs in Liane’s family. Her sister, Jaclyn, has published many award-winning books for teens and children, and her youngest sister, Nicola, writes domestic thrillers.

Liane worked in advertising and marketing after earning a business degree. She later founded her own ad agency and became a freelance copywriter. During this period, she attempted to write several novels before enrolling in a master’s program in creative writing at Macquarie University, where she completed her first novel, Three Wishes. She says that she was inspired to leave her corporate job to write after her sister, Jaclyn, landed a book deal. A few months after Liane graduated from the course, Three Wishes was accepted for publication. Since then, she has written nine novels and three children’s books. Two of her works, Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers, were adapted into highly successful TV series. During the Covid pandemic Liane was diagnosed with early breast cancer and underwent treatment while also writing Apples Never Fall. Her newest novel, Here One Moment, is releasing in September 2024.

Liane currently lives in Sydney with her husband and children.
