I want to suggest the Irish Country series to my fellow Louise Penny fans. It’s a great series that is well written with very engaging characters. I’m somewhat biased towards the “country village”genre. I love Jan Karon’s books and James Herriot’s “All Creatures Great And Small” growing up. This series isn’t focused on animals but people, however it has the same feel. It’s really well written and filled with lots of heartwarming and gentle moments, funny characters, and the like. They are real “feel good” books.
I was sad to see it end (the sixteenth book is apparently the last). But I’m hoping we’ll see Barry, Dr. O’Reilly, Kinky, and others again in some form or another.
Oh, a caution for others who might want to read Taylor’s other series about “the Troubles”. They are completely different. They are about the IRA and political tribulations of Northern Ireland and are thrillers. But they are really well written too.
Smile and a groan!
