Set in 1928, the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries follow the adventures of Phryne Fisher, a wealthy aristocrat and private detective living in Melbourne, Australia. The amateur sleuth is depicted as skilled with a gun (which she carries in her handbag), able to fly planes, and as courageous, fearless, and fiercely independent. She is assisted in her detective work by an assortment of memorable secondary characters.

Readers enjoy the series for its light-hearted puzzles, historical detail, and the bohemian Miss Fisher.

The recurring characters develop throughout the series, but the books don’t necessarily need to be read in order to be enjoyed. The Lady with Gun Asks the Questions is a companion volume to the series and contains over a dozen short stories featuring Phryne Fisher and four previously unpublished works.
